Please Remember the Unity of 9/12

The day after the September 11th attacks, we stood united as a Nation.  Let’s not politicize the killing of UBL.  We must pray for all servicemen and women fighting for this nation and for everyone who works to keep this nation safe.  Now that we’ve killed their leader, al-Qaeda and its affiliates will try even harder to kill Americans.  Lets pray they meet the same end as their leader.

I wrote this on September 12th of last year:

We should think back to what it was like, that Wednesday nine years ago, when, as a country, we stood united as one, resolute and ready, to defeat the evil force that attacked our country and our way of life.

We should thank God that our Nation’s leaders had the courage to lead, that our military had the strength to respond, and our first-responders had the dedication to their duty.

We should reflect on the many stories of personal heroism, from the brave men and women on United flight 93, to the old man who sacrificed himself so those younger could  evacuate the World Trade Center, telling them that “He had lived a long life.  You should too.”  He gave his life so that others could live.

So many gave their lives that fateful day, and yet, for some families, there remains a lack of closure.  Many bodies of the dead were never found, and nine years later the Freedom Tower has yet to stand tall, all 1,776 feet of it.

Have we forgotten the unity of 9/12?  Have we forgotten our hurt, our anger, and our loss?  I hope not.

Some now say that America overreacted to the attacks.  They are wrong.

Not one person has been killed by Islamic extremists on American soil since the 9/11 attacks.  That is a testament to our leaders in Washington and our brave warriors who still, nine years later, are fighting for this country on foreign soil.  They took the fight to the enemy.  They disrupted the terror networks.  They brought freedom to the oppressed.

God Bless America, her leaders, and her soldiers.  We must never forget what we are fighting for.
